Chiefs’ Siler starts in place of deceased friend Belcher

Brandon Siler was hoping he’d get his chance with the Chiefs, but not like this. The tragic news of Jovan Belcher’s murder-suicide hit Siler harder than most. Belcher, the team’s starting middle linebacker, and Siler, his backup, were friends and sat next to each other during daily meetings. Siler spent this past Saturday mourning the death of his teammate after it became public that Belcher shot Kasandra Perkins, his girlfriend and the mother of their three-month old daughter, and then… Read More »

Janoris makes history with two pick-sixes in win

Two weeks ago, the St. Louis Rams were reminded of why Janoris Jenkins carried a high risk in the draft. On Sunday, the rookie got back to reminding them why he brings a high reward. Jenkins became the first rookie since 1960 with a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns in the same game as the Rams beat the Cardinals, 31-17. Jenkins and fellow rookie Chris Givens were made inactive for the game against San Francisco on Nov. 11 for… Read More »

With Gronk out, Hernandez must recapture form

Regardless of the fact that tight end Rob Gronkowski broke his forearm on Sunday, everything still seems peachy for the Patriots, right? They’re 7-3, and they’ve pretty much wrapped up the AFC East division title already. But the Patriots and their fans aren’t exactly going to shoot their muskets off for a 10th division title in 12 years while a decade-long Super Bowl drought continues for the perennial contenders. Gronkowski — who had surgery on Monday — is only expected… Read More »

Bills’ bad blood for Spikes builds some more after hits

If you ask the Buffalo Bills, Brandon Spikes is a “punk” and a “headhunter.” He’s certainly proving himself to be a menace in the middle of the Patriots’ defense, especially against the Bills. In the fourth quarter of his team’s 37-31 win over their AFC East rivals, Spikes tracked down backpedaling QB Ryan Fitzpatrick before drilling him. Although the hit came just as the ball was being thrown, there was helmet-to-helmet contact and Spikes was flagged for roughing the passer.… Read More »

Tebow time is long overdue for the nose-diving Jets

During his first press conference as a New York Jet, Tim Tebow said the word “excited” 45 times with that signature smile that never seems to leave his face. Until now. Tebow, who only touched the ball once in a 30-9 home loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, was asked yet again about his lack of playing time after the game. “I’m a good competitor and I love playing the game,” he said. “I’m ready and willing whenever they call… Read More »

Vikings teammates say Harvin may be best in NFL

Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder gave Percy Harvin the ultimate praise on Thursday. “He might be the best player in the NFL right now,” Ponder told the Chicago Tribune. And those words come from a former Seminole who has running back Adrian Peterson as a teammate. Harvin may not be the best player in the NFL this season. He may not win the MVP even though NFL.com and other publications have him in the mix. However the point is, it’s not… Read More »

Wright making major progress in 3rd year with Bears

Major Wright had his eyes on the Gators this past Saturday, but one player in particular caught his attention. The former Gator safety, now with the Chicago Bears, says Matt Elam is making a name for himself at the same position he played at UF from 2007-2009. “He’s doing great. You know, he’s a great player. I feel like he does some things that simulates me,” Wright said. “He hits hard. He goes after the ball. He’s a great player.”… Read More »

Nelson, Dunlap join former rivals to boost Bengals

Playing in Jacksonville on Sunday brought back memories for Bengals teammates Reggie Nelson and Carlos Dunlap. However, those recollections are a little different for the former Gators. While Nelson couldn’t help but reminisce on his three years as a Jaguar, Dunlap couldn’t help but recall one particular game as a freshman at UF in 2007. That’s because two of Dunlap’s current teammates won’t let him forget. Receiver A.J. Green and defensive tackle Geno Atkins, who was on the Georgia team… Read More »

Spikes blasts replacement refs after loss to Ravens

If Brandon Spikes wasn’t already on the long list of people who aren’t happy with the replacement refs, he’s officially on there now. At roughly 1 a.m. on Monday, the Patriots’ linebacker tweeted, “Can someone please tell these (expletive) zebras foot locker called and they’re needed Back at work!!!!,” with the hashtag #BreakingPoint. “The jerk store called. They’re running out of you” (a la George Costanza) wouldn’t have gotten his point across as good. In fact, I don’t think anything… Read More »

Tebow denies trade rumor; impact Gators in NFL

Tim Tebow would love to get significant snaps this week against the same Steelers team he dramatically booted from the playoffs last season. More importantly, if he doesn’t start to see more of the field — at least more than his five carries last week — a source told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News that he’ll seek a trade out of the Big Apple. “I think he will be a good soldier,” the source said Wednesday. “At… Read More »
