More than a quarter of the former Gators that suited up for NFL squads
last season saw their contracts expire when the clock struck midnight
Friday. Two of the 10 have already resigned with their clubs, one left
a long-time home and headed north. The other seven are making the
rounds on radio station and media interviews, trying to convince
general managers that they’re a piece of a championship

Another trade deadline has come and gone in the NBA, leaving dozens of players sighing with relief and canceling their appointments with the movers.
One former Gator changed teams at the deadline, leaving New York for Chicago, but it wasn’t the one who many expected.
Anthony Roberson was a part of a cost-cutting move that sent his contract, along with Tim Thomas and Jerome James to the Bulls for Larry Hughes’ $12.8 million per-year deal that ends after next season.

Former Gator point guard Jason Williams sat on press row in December to take in the UF men’s basketball team’s victory over Georgia Southern.
The newly retired Williams said that he was enjoying life and spending time with his family, but it seems that may have changed.
Yahoo Sports is reporting that Williams filed reinstatement papers with the NBA today and will likely reach a contract buyout with the L.A. Clippers, which holds his rights.

Former Gator Chris Richard, a valuable member Billy Donovan’s back-to-back national championship teams and current NBA Developmental League All-Star, will miss the remainder of the D-League season after suffering an acute fracture in his back.
He’s expected to make a full recovery by mid-summer.
Richard, who averaged 11.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists through 20 games, was the top pick of the 2008 D-League draft by the Tulsa 66ers. He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2007 NBA …

NBA rookies have it rough. They have to carry their teammates’ bags, go on food runs during road trips and put up with general hazing throughout the year.
All this while digesting a new playbook, adjusting to playing about four times a week and signing their name so many times their wrists gets cramps when shooting jumpshots.
