Beal leads Wizards to historic playoff start

Behind second-year shooting guard Bradley Beal, Washington is off to its best playoff start in 32 years. After a lackluster Game 1 performance in Chicago, the former Gator scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday to lead his team to a 101-99 victory in overtime. The Wizards head home for Friday’s Game 3 with a 2-0 lead, and it’s the first time since 1982 that they’ve won the first two games of a playoff series. “We’ve got to… Read More »

Evans reminisces on rookie season

This time last year, former Florida safety Josh Evans was looking forward to the 2013 NFL Draft after months of preparation and positive feedback. He led the Gators with 79 tackles as a senior, and most analysts projected him as a mid-round selection. However, Evans wasn’t taken until the 169th overall pick by Jacksonville Jaguars. “I had a big chip on my shoulder after that,” he said. “You look at certain projections and see third or fourth round, then you… Read More »

Brewer scores career-high 51, joins elite category

Corey Brewer can now be mentioned in the same sentence as Michael Jordan. The Minnesota forward scored a career-high 51 points Friday, and his Timberwolves needed every one of them in their 112-110 win over Houston. His point total tied the franchise best set by Kevin Love, and also matched Vernon Maxwell’s 1991 mark for the most points scored by a former Gator in an NBA game. But Brewer’s six steals against the Rockets put him in an even more… Read More »
