Gators in the NFL Week 13

by Ryan Randall

Coming into Sunday’s game against New England, Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder told the Sun-Sentinel he would be quiet when playing the Patriots, referring to the fine he received last year against the team after an altercation with New England lineman Matt Light. However, it would be the final defensive play in the Dolphins’ Week 13 contest that would speak for Crowder, as the fifth-year player picked off a Tom Brady pass to seal a 22-21 victory over their AFC East rival. The interception was the first of Crowder’s career, and he also had four total tackles, giving him 46 combined tackles this season. Miami is now 6-6 with the victory, and are still in the hunt to make the Wild Card, as they are one game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars, who hold the final Wild Card spot.

Last week, Percy Harvin had a career day with over 100 receiving yards, in a victory; this week it was Louis Murphy’s turn. The Oakland Raiders wideout had four catches for 128 yards against Pittsburgh, including 11-yard game-winning touchdown catch. Murphy’s day was even more impressive considering he did not start and had more yards that both starters Johnnie Lee Higgins and Chaz Schilens, who combined for 108. After the game, Murphy told the San Francisco Chronicle the team wants to keep making plays, and was also very excited about the Raiders’ fantastic finish, telling the paper, ”Oh man, the emotion, I can’t even explain it.”

I thought I’ve seen Joe Cohen several times playing defensive line. Can you confirm that? If so, please include in your next report.

8 offensive players and only 15 TDs combined out of all of them through 13 weeks?

Nice to see “Big Money” Warren living up to his name – again – as he does year after year after year. A whole 1 sack. Outstanding.

May be good in college, but at the next level, the Florida Gators certainly are nothing impressive. E.Smith, J.Youngblood and a very few others are about it. More busts than anything.
