Ingram’s, Harvin’s NFL draft fortunes

Tampa Bay fans may have a bittersweet feeling when they look at Todd McShay’s latest mock draft.
McShay, an NFL Draft expert for ESPN, has Cleveland selecting former Gator tight end Cornelius Ingram with the No. 18 (50th overall) pick in the second round of the April 25-26 selection meetings.
That’s the pick the Bucs handed the Browns for troubled tight end Kellen Winslow.
Ingram’s name has risen up draft boards in recent weeks as word of his impressive pro day workout – and equally pleasing private workouts for teams – have made rounds.
Ingram’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said at UF’s pro day event that his client has literally shown improvement every day since beginning a rigorous rehab program to recover from a knee injury that cost him his entire senior season. Ingram’s times have been down and he’s showing the same speed, strength, mobility and hands that had him projected among the best tight ends in the draft prior to the injury.
ESPN’s other draft analyst, Mel Kiper, currently has Ingram tabbed as the fifth best available tight end.
Rosenhaus’ target is to have Ingram drafted in the first two rounds. If recent trends continue, it looks like he’ll hit that target.
Several mock drafts, including McShay’s, have the Jets nabbing Percy Harvin with their first round pick, No. 17 overall.
I spoke to one of the Jets’ scouts, who was at UF’s pro day specifically to watch Harvin. The coach seemed smitten with the speedster and was among many muscling for elbow room when Harvin, Louis Murphy and Ingram put on a show during passing drills.
Before the drills, I asked the scout to tell me what he thought about the Harvin that he had seen on tape while scouting. His answer was brief, but concise.
“He’s one tough cookie.”
